Prenatal Care

    At  our first initial visit we will discuss maternal, family and previous pregnancy and obstetric history, Determination of dates and referral for  any concerns revealed. Blood will be drawn for all prenatal labs as indicated by Tennessee state laws with your consent. A diet history will be taken and nutritional recommendations will be made as needed. We will discuss our philosophies and become acquainted. If there is anything you would like to discuss in private then that can be arranged, all confidentiality will always be maintained by myself as your health care provider.

   Following the initial visit, I will see you in your home at 4 week intervals until 32 weeks, then every 2 weeks weeks until 36 weeks and then weekly until the birth of your baby.

   Routine prenatal visits include weight, blood pressure, fundal height and fetal growth, fetal heart rate, presentation and activity of baby. Maternal nutrition, exercise, psychological well being and any additional labs to be ordered as indicated. Any questions or concerns will be discussed.

   At the 36 week visit we can set a time so that I can become acquainted with the birth participates [ family, friends, children} as desired by the client to address any questions or concerns they may have and we can become acquainted to lessen any apprehension at the birth,

   Each client will be provided with a handout regarding concerns which they should contact the midwife concerning including possible labor signs. I am available by phone 24 hours a day to receive these calls, in the unlikely event that I am available to respond promptly then another midwife will be on call to answer these concerns.
